Dorothy Alden Becker, featured in the current display honoring Santa Cruz as the birthplace of surfing in the lower 48, was a champion swimmer and one of the first women to pioneer surfing in mainland USA.
Dorothy’s grandson, Ed Guzman will be discussing his grandma with Bob Pearson who collaborated on the surfing exhibition. They will celebrate Dorothy Becker’s remarkable life and lasting impact on the surf culture of Santa Cruz.
There will be no charge to enter the museum from noon to 8pm, since this is the first Friday of the month.
