Head to the Quarry Amphitheater to see the acoustic duo, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings! Their spare, often dark sound, which has been called “at once innovative and obliquely reminiscent of past rural forms”, blends Appalachian, bluegrass, country and Americana. Celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Grateful Dead’s 1981 live acoustic album, Reckoning, the tour features the Grammy-winning folk duo performing acoustic interpretations of the classic material from that record, alongside other selections from the Grateful Dead’s extensive catalog.
The Quarry Amphitheater was carved from a former limestone quarry in the 1960’s. The unique terraced asymmetrical design allows for amazing sightlines as you groove with towering redwoods all around you. You won’t want to miss seeing Gillian Welch & David Rawlings at this venue!
Locals Love: The unique venue.
First Timers Miss: Bringing a blanket or towel to keep comfortable in a redwood micro-climate.
Insights: The Quarry Amphitheater is inside UCSC, so parking fees and lot usage are unpredictable. There are public e-bike stations on campus and throughout Santa Cruz and Capitola. Watch to see if a rally bus is available for the event.
