Overview

The heart of world-famous Shadowbrook is a log cabin originally built as a summer home in the 1920’s. This beautiful restaurant is located on the banks of Soquel Creek in the quaint beach town of Capitola-by-the-Sea, four miles south of Santa Cruz. Best reached by its unique hillside “Cable Car,” Shadowbrook not only continues a long-time traditon for special occasion and group dining but is also a very popular destination for weddings, receptions, and rehearsal dinners.

A Santa Cruz County landmark ever since it opened, Shadowbrook continues today to be a favorite with locals and visitors alike. Its fine food, extensive wine list, and unparalleled setting and atmosphere have earned it numerous awards for food and service, including “Best Date-Night Restaurant” and Top-100 of America’s “Most Romantic Restaurants.”

Patrons either take the famous hillside “Cable Car” or meander down the garden path through the lush landscaping to reach the restaurant’s entry. Shadowbrook’s beautiful grounds with waterfalls and rock walls, and its warm, comfortable and intimate dining areas are perfect for romance, rehearsal dinners, as well as wedding ceremonies and receptions.

This 75-year old restaurant proudly serves fine food, paired with a broad variety of wines and liqeuers in an atmosphere of “Old World” charm and grace. The dinner menu features creative daily specials, followed by tempting house-made desserts… all made from scratch.

As many people have noted, the Shadowbrook has managed to do something that is very rare. It honors its past while continually reinventing itself to stay current. It’s one of the the oldest restaurants in the area and yet at the same time one of the most interesting, beautiful, and respected. It gets better all the time without forgetting its unpretentious log cabin roots.
