Weekday afternoons/evenings, you’ll find us at the various forests and beaches around Santa Cruz, Capitola, Aptos, Monterey and Carmel – photographing large and small families, intimate elopements / micro-weddings, fun engagements with couples, surprise marriage proposals, senior portraits, and maternity sessions. Weekends are pretty much dedicated to the select full weddings we take on every year, but mostly for our own family time, which is what life is really all about. Right?
History
Established in 2000.
We’ve moved all around the Bay Area in the last 20 years, but have finally settled down in the Santa Cruz area. Chris Schmauch (the owner) has always been the primary photographer behind GoodEye, but we’re expanding the brand to include others as well as the business grows and prospers. We started out primarily photographing weddings, but we’ve expanded to personal / family portraits and more recently focusing on commercial photography – essentially any kind of photography a small, medium or large business could possibly need.

I am a husband, a father of three beautiful children, a gentleman farmer, and a creative professional that somehow is able to make a great living doing what I love.
I love technology and art, but I also get along with pretty much everyone – which makes me a rather unusual breed of nerd. People make life interesting, and capturing big and little moments is immensely satisfying.
I keep busy throughout the year photographing at least 240 shoots on an annual basis: there’s everything wedding-related, of course; then there’s a bunch of commercial work for businesses (headshots, corporate events, food/restaurants, architecture), and of course lots of family-related sessions like maternity, families, and even multi-generation gatherings. It’s all immensely satisfying work, and I feel blessed to have found continued success in this creative niche of an industry.
