Open House at the Castro Adobe: The Pajaro Valley in the Mexican Era

Castro Adobe State Historic Park
184 Old Adobe Road (off of Larkin Valley Road)
Watsonville, CA 95076 United States

September 12, 2020
Starts at 11:00 am and ends at 3:00 pm

Our Castro family came here in Spanish times, built their adobe just as California was becoming our 31st state. Their legacies remain today; but the Castro’s heyday began with the Mexican land grant of Rancho San Andrés and the height of cattle ranching in the Pájaro Valley. Enjoy guided tours of the hacienda, fresh tortilla making in our restored cocina, and crafts and games for the kids. Join us for a unique opportunity to view our newest State Historic Park. Castro Adobe is the first non-beach State Historic Park in the Pajaro Valley, the two-story Rancho San Andrés Castro Adobe, built between 1848-49, is one of the finest examples of a rancho hacienda in the Monterey Bay area. The open house event is free to attend; donations greatly accepted. Leashed dogs are allowed in the parking area only. The Castro Adobe is open on a limited basis. The park will be open to the public only one weekend day each month in 2019. This hidden jewel in the Pájaro Valley is currently an active construction site as the adobe building is being repaired and is open only during scheduled events. Free event; limited parking (carpooling encouraged). Events made possible by Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks and California State Parks.
