Local Efforts Show Industry to be #CAWineStrong

During the month of October, wineries, tasting rooms, and wine-related businesses are showing support for those affected by the devastating Northern California Wildfires by donating a portion of their proceeds toward this cause.  The Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowing Association is helping get the word out. In the aftermath of the fires affecting Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino and other areas, here’s how you can help:

All proceeds from the CAWineStrong fundraising campaign will be donated to the Napa Valley Community Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund, the Community Foundation of Sonoma County’s Resilience Fund, and the Community Foundation of Mendocino County to directly benefit individuals and families affected by the wildfires.

A group of association leaders representing California’s major wine growing regions has formed and in addition to the #CAWineStrong fundraising campaign, the group has created an online resource database where vintners can find and offer resources, such as generators, trailers, lodging and manpower.  Resource and contact information will be shared only with members of Sonoma, Napa and Mendocino winegrowing and vintner associations. Click here to offer resources.

Finally, to show your support, follow #CAWineStrong on social media, and look for the #CAWineStrong logo at participating businesses.

Let’s All Shop Small on Small Business Saturday – November 25th

Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 25th, as 2017’s Small Business Saturday.  Originally created by American Express to support small local businesses as an alternative to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this third annual countywide push is a coordinated effort to involve hundreds of local business owners. Local participating businesses will be listed on the directory, in social media posts on the County of Santa Cruz’s Shop Small Facebook page, and through other outlets.

According to the County of Santa Cruz, over 2,000 businesses participated throughout the county in 2016.  Special events are planned in Felton, Boulder Creek, Aptos, Capitola, Downtown Santa Cruz, and Live Oak.  Check the Shop Small Facebook page as updates are posted.  Out of the over 14,000 businesses within the county, 82 percent qualify as micro businesses with less than 9 employees.  A small business, by definition, has less than 50 employees, of which 96 percent of Santa Cruz County businesses qualify.  Shopping small during the holiday season boosts the local economy and helps many of these businesses for the rest of the year.  More people shopping small and locally keeps more money invested locally.  There is no cost to participate in this promotion, which will involve local businesses across the United  States!  Click here for your free Small Business Saturday promotional materials and to learn more about the initiative.
