Whale City Bakery Opens in Aptos

Whale City Bakery Opens in Aptos

One of the trademarks of the former whaling town of Davenport, Whale City Bakery is preparing to open a second location in mid-county.

First opened in 1982 as a gas station and commercial bakery on Santa Cruz County’s north coast, Whale City became a retail bakery offering house-made sweet and savory scones, muffins, breads, and other pastries, including delectable lallieberry croissants whose main ingredient can only be found on California’s central coast. Soon the bakery expanded to offer meal service, and a coffee and espresso bar, gaining a reputation for satisfying fare and friendly service. After four decades, Whale City Bakery will debut in Aptos. Less than 30 minutes south of its original location, the new creekside setting will offer the same ample breakfasts, lunches and dinners along with local beer and wines.
