When it comes to family fun in Santa Cruz there’s no shortage of choices. Thrill seekers can ride zip lines through the forest with Mount Hermon Adventures
or make their stomach drop on the Giant Dipper at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
. Those looking for less of an adrenaline rush can explore the shorelines of countless picturesque beaches, hike through redwood forests, and then take the kids out for ice cream
. If you’re looking for family-friendly outings that are both entertaining and educational, however, these five local landmarks won’t disappoint.
The latest buzz in Santa Cruz is Abbott Square, a dynamic plaza and marketplace that’s enlivened already buzzing downtown
with six new restaurants, two bars, plenty of al fresco courtyard seating, and a lineup of free performances and public art. The $5 million endeavor is five years in the making, and a joint project of the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History
(MAH) and developer John McEnery IV who created a similar community marketplace in San Jose.

The Boardwalk did some prepping for the new season, too, with a whopping $14 million worth of new rides, updated attractions, and cool enhancements. Here’s a peek of what new fun the Boardwalk has in store for 2017.
