While hot new rides and frozen treats fill summer days at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, the fun doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. Evening movies and concerts enliven Main Beach with free performances by bands such as Los Lobos and Quiet Riot, and outdoor screenings of classic movies including Grease and Ghostbusters. Plus, this year marks the 30th anniversary of The Lost Boys, the classic teen vamp flick filmed in Santa Cruz, and we’re celebrating with a special screening, free movie location map, and an Instagram contest (thru June 14th).

Watch classic films each Wednesday night at 9pm from June 21-August 16

Every summer, The Boardwalk transforms Main Beach into an open-air movie theater with lively screenings of cult classics and family favorites. With sand between your toes, you’ll enjoy films such as Clueless and Shrek against a dazzling backdrop of spinning Boardwalk lights and the Monterey Bay.

This year, the series kicks off June 21st with a 30th anniversary screening of The Lost Boys, the 1980s vampire flick that inspired Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and features a young Kiefer Sutherland alongside the two Coreys (Corey Feldman and the late Corey Haim). The film was shot on location in Santa Cruz, and now fans can relive their teen-vamp fantasies with our new movie map that guides you to numerous film locations all over town.

In addition to The Lost Boys, you can also go back in time with Michael J. Fox and sing-along with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. Check out the other scheduled films listed below. Showtime starts each Wednesday night at 9pm from June 21-August 16. Gather some friends, spread out on a blanket, and enjoy a balmy evening on the beach!
