Toasting the coast has always been a favorite pastime for wine lovers in Santa Cruz County. The Capitola Art and Wine Festival September 11th and 12th is a great way to celebrate the region’s fine wines and artists. The Santa Cruz Wine Trail to the Sea September 7–10th is another opportunity to taste wine and see the sights. And the Scotts Valley Art & Wine Festival is coming up August 14–15th! If you prefer a Life List over a wine list, the Monterey Bay Birding Festival will be held September 23–26, 2010. This year, the festival’s theme, The California Coast – From Condors to Snowy Plovers, offers a lineup expert-led field trips, specialized birding outings for beginners, tours of the Watsonville and Elkhorn sloughs via kayak and boat, owl outings, a photography workshop, pelagic trips on the Monterey Bay and other activities. The free Birding and Wildlife Watching guide from the Santa Cruz County Conference & Visitors Council can help birders familiarize themselves with the area’s feathered friends and other wildlife adventures.
