Overview

This state beach features a beautiful expanse of sea and sand, with surf fishing, surfing and many recreation opportunities. Located in Watsonville, Manresa State Beach is ideal for enjoying every kind of view the county has to offer. Since its acquisition by the state of California in 1948, this region has been used to protect coastal resources and to view the amazing wildlife that Santa Cruz County has native to the region. Manresa is a dog-friendly beach. Bring your four-legged friend on leash and enjoy a walk, run, or a lazy day in the sunshine. Enjoy a picnic at the tables near the top of the bluff with panoramic views of both the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Here, you can drive by scenic Pajaro Dunes Resort, a Watsonville based strand of beachfront vacation rentals with breathtaking views and opportunities to see wildlife up close in their natural habitat. This beach is ideal for spotting wildlife both on the land and sea. During the early spring, Snowy Plovers begin to hatch along Manresa State Beach and can be viewed from a safe distance on the sand. Visitors are invited to watch this phenomenon and learn more about these beautiful birds.

This area is also home to several sea mammals that can be seen throughout various times of the year. Sea otters, grey whales, and dolphins are some of the wildlife that can be seen from shore. These playful, awe-inspiring animals are picture perfect and spotting them makes for a fun activity while lounging on the beach. In the brush, rabbits, hummingbirds, and monarch butterflies can be seen during appropriate seasons. There are sixty walk-in camping sites provided at Manresa State Beach. Reservations can be made at www.reservecalifornia.com for early Spring through October. Nearby, you can adventure onto hiking trails, mountain bike, or even take a surfing lesson right on-site.
