2017 Winter Wildlife Promotion Kicks Off

Visit Santa Cruz County is proud to announce the 2017 Winter Wildlife Watching Getaway Promotion, which launches this monthWith the monarch butterflies’ arrival, elephant seals coming to Año Nuevo State Reserve to birth their young, bird and whale migration, and increased activity in the Monterey Bay, these local lodging specials from hotels, bed and breakfast inns, and vacation rentals will make it easier than ever for visitors to plan an overnight stay during December and January - critical off-season months for the tourism industry. 

The Winter Wildlife Watching Getaway Promotion continues until Wednesday, January 31, 2018.  A big Thank You to the six properties participating in this promotion!  Beach House RentalsChaminade Resort & SpaFairview Manor Bed & BreakfastHotel Paradox, the Inn at Pasatiempo, and the West Cliff Inn. Each property is offering a special promotion geared to entice visitors to stay overnight and enjoy all the area has to offer in terms of wildlife viewing.  To help enhance the visitor experience, VSCC is promoting its Wildlife Watching Guide, which makes experiencing the area’s rich diversity of wildlife and habitats easier than ever.

Visit Santa Cruz County Hosts Media Fam From Down Under for Boos and Brews

Visit Santa Cruz County recently hosted a group of Australian media, providing an opportunity for VSCC lodging, dining, and activity partners. 
 
To kick off the launch of Visit California’s Kidifornia campaign in Australia, leveraging the timing of Halloween and to precede family travel placements in the lead up to the Kidifornia launch, Visit California partnered with Air New Zealand to lead a media fam to Northern California October 26 – November 1.  Working in concert with Visit California’s Australian office, a select group of six media representatives visited San Francisco, Monterey, and Santa Cruz.   Visit Santa Cruz County’s international programs are supported by the Tourism Marketing District, and are designed to expand Santa Cruz County’s presence in the international market and exposure with key media representatives abroad. 

With target media focusing on real time and online coverage to ensure story placement immediately after Halloween and in the lead up to an in market activation aimed at the family market, VSCC pulled out all the stops to ensure this group of media influencers experienced outdoor adventure, arts and culture, food and wine, attractions, and shopping, all while gaining valuable destination exposure for their outlets. Visiting media included: whimn.com.au, a new premium digital destination for Australian women ages 25-39 and part of News Corp; Yahoo! Travel; Fairfax “Traveller”, a supplement of The Sun Herald; News Corp “Escape,” Australia’s only national travel supplement, reaching more than 1.3 million readers; 9 Elsewhere: ninemsn’s dedicated travel site offering a mix of travel features and travel tip style content, and APN, which connects with over 2.1 million consumers every month.

The theme and itinerary - “Boos and Brews in Santa Cruz”utilized the Lost Boys movie location map as a jumping off point before hosting the group for a tour and lunch with Brew Cruz, a frightfully good time at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk’s Fright Walk, a hike at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, a visit to the Surfing Museum and Santa Cruz Wharf, face painting at the Tannery Arts Center with an overview from artist Ann Hazels of the Radius Gallery, breakfast at Chaminade Resort & Spa, a tour of Evergreen Cemetery by Sibley Simon, apple cider tasting at Martinelli’s Company Store, a tour of Annieglass, dinner at Café Rio in Aptos, and accommodations at the Seascape Beach Resort complete with s’mores.

Spotlight Featured Business Opportunities Available

VSCC is launching a newly redesigned Spotlight Featured Business co-op marketing program, which allows partners to be evenly rotated on all leisure-related landing pages on the VSCC website. The Spotlight Featured Business layout is larger, offering a bigger photo and more room for copy with a direct link to partner websites.
