SANTA CRUZ ROLLS OUT BIKE SHARING PROGRAM
This spring, visitors will have a new way to tour Santa Cruz – in the form of 8-speed bikes: 50 electric bikes and 200 standard bikes, located at various stations around town. These short-term bike rentals are designed for quick trips within city limits and are ideal for visitors wanting to leisurely cruise through the area and blend in effortlessly with locals in this bicycle-friendly place. The bright-red bikes are easy to spot and are equipped with bike locks and GPS units. Santa Cruz partnered with Brooklyn-based Social Bicycles on this initiative, and the process is easy: find and reserve a bike through the mobile or web app, or just walk up to a bike to enter your information. A credit card is the standard payment though a cash payment option will also be available. At a bike station, unlock the bike with a pin number, go for your ride and then return the bike to any station. The bicycle share program is part of the Go Santa Cruz initiative — the city’s ongoing effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourage biking, walking, carpooling and transit for daily trips.
