NEW COASTAL BIOLOGY BUILDING DEBUTS AT THE SEYMOUR MARINE DISCOVERY CENTER

Improvements have been made to the Seymour Marine Discovery Center at Long Marine Lab, a world-renowned university research facility and marine life aquarium. Construction of a new Coastal Biology Building is now complete. The new building will support research and instruction on coastal conservation, ecology, habitat restoration, climate change impacts, and policy. Infrastructure upgrades to the center include a new entrance gateway, relocation of the entrance road paths for walking and biking, overlooks with interpretive panels, improvements to underground utilities, and a public access parking lot near the entry way. Part of UC Santa Cruz, the Center is part of the nation’s third largest marine research and education facility. Docent-led tours offer a behind-the-scenes peek at the lab's facilities and Younger Lagoon Natural Reserve. “Ms. Blue,” one of the world’s largest displayed blue whale skeleton, once a living 87-foot mammal, greets visitors outside the center.
