Surf Divas unite! If the lure of the waves is too big a temptation to ignore, grab your girlfriends and hit the waves. For beginners ready to test their pipeline protocol, Richard Schmidt Surf School and Club Ed Surf School have been teaching surfing in Santa Cruz for nearly two decades. A fundamental part of the curriculum of both surf schools is the emphasis on safety and surfing etiquette in their lessons. Students also learn the basics of waves, how to safely navigate their boards in the water, and how to stand on their boards to catch a wave from a resting position. Lessons are taught one-on-one or in small group settings, so get on board!
What would a getaway with friends be without sampling some of the Santa Cruz Mountain appellation’s fine wines? An idyllic region in South County, the Corralitos Wine Trail features four family-owned wineries, surrounded by redwood trees and apple orchards. And on the west side of Santa Cruz, a spirited courtyard is a local favorite where wineries, shops and restaurants can be found. Always brimming with something new to see or taste, this lively spot is home to Bonny Doon Vineyards and a number of tasting rooms that make up Surf City Vintners. And finally, the five wineries on the Summit to Sea Wine Trail offer world-class wines and exhilarating views, all within close proximity to one another. If your appetite is small, opt for a glass of wine and a few delectable small plates at hip Soif Wine Bar in Downtown Santa Cruz. And on the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf, Vino Prima Wine Bar offers tastings along with a panoramic view of the Monterey Bay. From the windows facing east, you can view the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Main Beach and the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor; or gaze out the west windows and admire the world-renowned surfing spot, Steamer Lane.
“Serenity” is a word that particularly resonates with those who are stressed-out, over-booked and over-extended. Santa Cruz County has always been lauded for its’ laid-back, relaxing vacation opportunities, and that holds even more true today. Private indoor and outdoor spa rooms are unique features of Downtown Santa Cruz’s Well Within Spa.
