Santa Cruz Winter Wildlife Watch

Santa Cruz is known for its phenomenal wildlife viewing opportunities. Year 'round whale watching, birding and elephant seals, and seasonal monarch butterflies have put Santa Cruz County on the map for many nature enthusiasts. But from November through January there seems to be a crescendo of wildlife that make Santa Cruz a wintertime must-see!

There's something pretty spectacular about being able to watch whales from your beach chair. Take it from me, last weekend's cloudy beach day at Santa Maria's was nothing short of amazing as the giants lunged and breached less than 100 feet from the water's edge.
