Planning a Pre-holiday Spa-liday

Working moms vs. stay-at-home moms…seriously, does that debate even exist anymore? I know one thing we can all agree on and that is: ALL moms deserve some "me" time! Let's face it, life does not slow down unless we make a conscious effort. Between back to school schedules and the upcoming holiday season, why not treat yourself to a spa-liday? I recently met up with a girlfriend for a mini-getaway. This was a day for catching up and not having an agenda, and by no agenda I mean...we scheduled massages at The Spa at Chaminade! I'm surprised it has taken me this long to discover Chaminade. A couple of kids ago, I would've jumped at the chance to plan a day that could include not just a mani/pedi or massage, but the entire use of all the amenities Chaminade has to offer. Everything from the heated outdoor pool to the tennis courts and fitness center, not to mention hiking trails and restaurants is on the property! Talk about using our "me" time wisely! Since relaxation was the goal, we decided to skip the gym and head for the trails for a leisurely hike. I would definitely describe this place as “nestled,” because no matter where we looked we had a breathtaking view of the redwood-covered mountains. Once we made it back to the spa, we slipped on the provided plush robes and awaited our massages in the dimly lit meditation room. Then, all I could think for the next hour was, "Aaaahhhh..." We enjoyed unwinding further with a soak in the private jacuzzi and shared a fruit and artisan cheese platter...we are traditional spa foodies, indeed! After freshening up in the ladies room, a spa experience in itself with steam room and sauna, we headed to Linwood’s Bar & Grill to meet another friend for drinks. I'm certain we threw the bartender for a loop with our eclectic order of a Cucumber Mojito, Mudslide, and Lemon Drop with salted rim, but she did not disappoint! It was the perfect ending to our Moms Day Out. Of course, I dream of going back. Maybe next time, we'd start out with breakfast in the Sunset Restaurant. The Chaminade Benedict with avocado, artichoke, and roasted peppers has my name on it! I could always work it off at the fitness center or perhaps a game of tennis…followed by a facial, naturally. A peek at the packages and promotions even has me thinking of an overnight staycation! Now we're talking!

The hiking trails are awesome...very Twilight. My out of town guest always want to see the redwoods, so I take them there...always nice to have a wine and cocktail bar nearby ;)

That's it, I need a spa-liday! This sounds perfect and I love the nestled hike for girl talk. As opposed to the gym. Plus, a cocktail afterward sounds like bliss!

Ok. I just need to move out there, and then I'll see you at the spa! I wish there was a spa like that out here -- hiking trails? redwoods? How dreamy.......

Sounds like heaven on earth! I'm sharing! So important for Moms to take time to pamper themselves occasionally- to refill the well. I have many Moms tell that they think they can't afford to take a day away, or they can't possibly conceive of taking the time away from their children, but the women who make the time and commitment to nurture and care for themselves are the ones who report they ultimately have more to give to their families, and they enjoy their time with their children more. It's a win- win situation!
