For the second summer in a row, California State Parks is offering Naturalist-Led Backpacking Adventures through the Santa Cruz Mountains! Whether you’re new to backpacking or a seasoned nomad, there’s an adventure waiting for you!

This year there will be five excursions throughout June to September with trips varying in length from one to three nights. These adventures will trek through Big Basin Redwoods State Park, Castle Rock State Park, Butano State Park, and Portola Redwoods State Park. RESERVATIONS OPEN FEBRUARY 1, 2016!

This exciting program is truly unique, the only such program led by California State Park staff. Experienced Backcountry Naturalists will introduce participants to the natural and cultural history of the various parks. Native plant teas, trail desserts, skills demonstrations, campfire stories and jokes are added bonuses!

Participation is open to adults 18 or over and children ages 13 to 17 accompanied by a parent or guardian.  For more information about Naturalist-Led Backpacking Adventures, please call (831) 291-8273 or email Backpacking.Adventures@parks.ca.gov.
